First Orthodontic Evaluations

We follow the guidelines established by the American Association of Orthodontists and recommend that an orthodontic evaluation take place for all children at age 7. Monitoring early dental development and providing timely intervention can often shorten any required treatment. Our goal is to minimize the orthodontic treatment time while still achieving a functional and beautiful result.

Interceptive Orthodontic (Phase I) Treatment

Interceptive orthodontics is a concept where certain problems are treated early (around age 7-11) to take advantage of growth and better cooperation.
Phase I treatment does not always prevent the need for braces, retainers, or other orthodontic treatment in later years. It can, however, minimize the time needed for the secondary phase of treatment and also correct skeletal discrepancy early.

Benefits of Early Orthodontic Evaluation

Early evaluation provides both timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment. Prudent intervention guides growth and development, preventing serious problems later. When orthodontic intervention is not necessary, an orthodontist can carefully monitor growth and development and begin treatment when it is ideal.
Advantages of Interceptive Treatment
Some of the most direct results of interceptive treatment are:

  1. Creating room for crowded erupting teeth.
  2. Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth.
  3. Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth.
  4. Preserving space for unerupted teeth.
  5. Reducing the need for tooth removal.
  6. Reducing treatment time with braces.

Comprehensive (Phase II) Orthodontic Treatment

The goal of Phase II Treatment is to position all the permanent teeth to maximize their appearance and function. This is best accomplished with full braces or Invisalign® and is usually between 12-18 months long. Due to the improvements made in Phase I Treatment, Phase II Treatment requires less patient participation (no headgear and fewer rubber bands), often eliminates extraction of permanent teeth, and reduces the time spent in full braces. This is especially important for patients as they enter their teenage years!

Treatment Options

(1) Invisalign
Invisalign is a system that uses a series of custom-made, nearly invisible clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth. This system doesn’t use any metal wires or brackets. The aligners are removable, allowing the patient to eat, brush, and floss as normal. In order for the teeth to move, the aligners have to be worn all day and night except during eating and brushing. Invisalign treatment will be provided by a Specialist Orthodontist who is an Accredited Invisalign Practitioner.

(2) Ceramic Tooth Color Bracket
With tooth color brackets, patients can smile with confident during their treatment, without worrying about people noticing their braces
